When it comes to the way I have grown throughout my college career it has been drastic. In the beginning I didn’t really care for school, my future, or those around me. I also never had been a part of any community or social spaces. That slowly began to change as I became a part of the UAT community. I was never the best student in high-school or even the best person back then. When I got into college a lot of my life was changed and it shaped me into the man I am today. I was never the student to try or push themselves to get the best grades that they can, now that I think of it… A lot of my hobbies, I have now been directly impacted by those that I have met during my college life. My determined and ambitious personality is largely credited to Professor Aaron Jones, who taught me to never give up and keep trying my hardest no matter the circumstances. To me picking up a book and falling in love with reading, and I mean all types of reading it doesn’t matter what type of genres I just want to gather as much information as I can. I believe this is largely due to Professor Dapzury Valenzuela and her constant saying that it is good to be a lifelong learner, something that I knew deep down but never understood till asking more about it. The perspective that she had saying that no matter what point of our lives we are in we can still be a student to our hobbies, crafts, interests, and life stuck with me so I decided to do my best to absorb as much knowledge as I can. I took my first ethics and philosophy class here at UAT and I fell in love with every aspect of the art, I would love to present my ideologies and thoughts to the world eventually (I will in due time). I guess what I’m trying to say is that I took a chance to follow my passion for tech and ended up at UAT a community at first, I wanted nothing to do with, just was here to get my degree and leave never to remember those that I interacted with. However, as time went on, I found myself becoming more effected by the professors and students that I met they helped me shape into the man I am today, and for that I am eternally grateful. For the longest time I felt like I never really belonged, I always was able to fit in with every group in school, but I didn’t feel like I was meant to be there. Then I got to UAT, and everything felt right, I felt a sense of belonging like the professors cared for me even when they didn’t have to. It was a completely new experience from what I had gone through in the past with adults and academic professionals. Because of the UAT community and those involved in it I have grown to be the man I’m proud of today and I eventually want to join the fight as an advocate for associations that help men deal with mental health. With that I have also decided that because of my professors later down the line I would love to teach, I hope to impact the lives of my students the same way that they have impacted me.
